On October 25, the Chinese Language Teachers Association of Southern California (CLTA‑SC) held its Fall Technology Symposium at the University of Southern California (USC). Nearly 90 teachers, students, and experts gathered for a cross‑disciplinary dialogue on “AI and Instructional Innovation,” marking a new chapter in Chinese language education. The conference centered on digital pedagogy, AI-enhanced teaching, and the creative use of multimedia tools in Chinese language classrooms.
Dr. Valerie Sun, an education leadership expert and principal of Duff Language Magnet Academy in the Garvey School District, presented “Teaching the Human: Reimagining Language Education in the Age of AI.” She examined how AI can be used in humanities education and demonstrated an interactive AI teaching platform that allows teachers to simulate students' foreign-language learning processes. By analyzing learning data, teachers can identify areas for improvement and design targeted instructional activities.
Dr. Sun emphasized that language teaching should balance Practice, Product, and Perspectives: “We must not focus only on outcomes; students should understand the world through practice and analysis.” Her session drew strong praise from attending educators—many commented, “This is the most human moment in AI applications.” Participants expressed eagerness to bring more of these tools into classrooms to deepen both teaching and learning.
