The Chinese Language Teachers Association of Southern California (CLTA-SC) is proud to highlight two major national recognitions earned by members of our community.
We first celebrate our recent guest speaker and CLTA-SC lifetime member, Dr. Valerie Sun, on receiving the Melba D. Woodruff Award from ACTFL. This distinguished national award honors her outstanding contributions to world language education. Dr. Sun’s achievement brings great pride to our community and shines a national spotlight on the work of Chinese language educators.
We are also incredibly proud of the Redondo Union High School (RUHS) Chinese Program for being selected as a 2025 National Outstanding K–16 Chinese Program by CLASS. This award recognizes the program’s excellence in curriculum innovation, student learning, and community engagement. Special congratulations go to CLTA-SC member Ms. Cathy Wang for her dedicated instructional leadership and her ongoing efforts to strengthen Chinese language education in Southern California.
Together, these recognitions reflect the vision, professionalism, and impact of CLTA-SC educators at both the regional and national levels. If you or your program have similar good news or recognitions to share, please contact us at cltasocal@gmail.com
so we can continue highlighting the achievements of our community.
