We’re excited to share highlights from the 2025 International Chinese Education Symposium & First Expo of Specialized Chinese Programs and Study Abroad Projects, held from April 18-20, 2025, at UC Santa Barbara! The conference focused on innovative practices in Chinese education, addressing key topics such as the application of AI technology, international collaboration, and cultural exchange. This event brought together 54 experts in Chinese education from around the world.
As a collaborating organization, CLTA-SC played a significant role by hosting a roundtable forum on K-12 education, featuring insights from:
- Eileen Wunderlich (Corona-Norco School District)
- He, Bin (President, CLTA-SC)
- Li, Fei (Marlborough School)
These educators shared valuable experiences on curriculum alignment, teacher development, and community engagement, providing practical models for regional collaboration.
Southern California teachers shone brightly throughout the conference. Notable presentations included:
1. Professor Liu, Jin introduced their new textbook, "Career Chinese: Seeking the Path to Success."
2. The UCI Chinese team led insightful sessions on specialized Chinese, including:
- "Development and Promotion of Specialized Chinese Series Courses" by Hsieh, Ruohmei
- "Business Chinese: Dual-Track Teaching Program Design" by Chen, Jessica
- "Workplace Chinese: AI Empowered Specialized Chinese Courses" by Petersen, Ying
- "UCI Specialized Chinese Series: Teaching Chinese as a World Language" by Lee, Tsai Yen
3. Professor Liu, Rongwen, and former president Hsieh, Ruomei, moderated a roundtable discussing overseas study programs, analyzing challenges and opportunities in this evolving educational landscape.
4. Xu, Li (UCSD) addressed the challenges in advanced business Chinese courses.
5. Professor Shen, Yan (UCLA) shared innovative multimodal strategies for teaching business Chinese.
